Question: I have a year and a half old KitchenAid Electric Cooktop, model number ykess907ss01, that has a crack in it. My warranty states that a cracked cooktop is covered only if it was caused by thermal shock? An appliance repair man came to look at it and said it wasn't caused by thermal shock, but I do not agree as I know I use proper cooking techniques and know nothing has fallen on the cooktop. Is there some definitive way to tell if a crack is or is not thermal related?
Answer from ApplianceJunk.com: There is no way to tell for sure that I know of, unless of course you can see the point of impact from something being dropped on it. It's really all in the hands of the technician as to how he wants to call it.
If the top broke because of no fault of your own and you’re not happy with the results you got from the technician that looked at it, there is only one thing to do; call the manufacture and complain about the service you received.
If the customer said the top cracked by no fault of their own then I would take their word for it and replace it under warranty.
Back when I did warranty work we would change out glass tops for the smallest imperfects. If the customer was not happy with the top and it was under warranty it was my job to make them happy.
